Rotanans back needy children

The Rotary Club of Manama gave donations to talling almost BD2,300 to local children charities yesterday.

The Bahrain Hope Institute for Special Education received BD1,0l4 to purchase electrical carpentry machines, a projector and computer software.

The donation was present-ed by club president Rashed Ebrahim to Children and Mothers, Welfare Society vice-president and treasurer Mahfoodha Al Zayani, at the institute's premises in Isa Town.

Others at the event includ-ed club past presidents Mazen Al Umran and Robert Ainey, club director of vocational services Dr Safia Dowaigher, institute vice-principal Shaikha Al Hussaini and teacher Dr Hayat Ahnoayed.

The second charity to bene- fit was the Saudi-Bahraini Institute for the Blind who received BD1,265, which was used to purchase computer speaking software programmes.

The cheque was presented by Mr Ebrahim to computer teacher Jassim Ali at the club's weekly meeting at the Gulf Hotel yesterday.

Arabic teacher Hussain Al Ameer, English teacher Hana Al Jamri, club honorary secretary Betsy Mathieson and other officials were abo pre- sent.

Meanwhile, the club will hold a fund-raising black tie and tiara gala dinner on June 8, at the Gulf Hotel's International Convention and Exhibition Centre, The event will be held to raise money for local chil- dren's charities, which are the club's main beneficiaries this year.

Tickets will be on sale in the next few weeks.
