Sailors support charity

A Donation of BD1,100 was presented to the Saudi-Bahraini Institute for the Blind in a ceremony at the British Embassy, Manama, yesterday.

The money was raised by more than 60 coalition sailors serving in Bahrain, including top Bahraini cyclist Abdulla Al Aziz from the West Riffa Cycling Club, during a sponsored bike ride from the Naval Support Activity, Juffair, to the Tree of Life and back.

Saudi-Bahraini Institute for the Blind director Abdul Wahed Mohammed Al Khayat received the cheque from British Ambassador Jamie Bowden and US Naval Forces Central Command Deputy Commander Rear Admiral Scott Swift.

"Your efforts are greatly appreciated and all the money raised will be used to support the institute's aim of providing every Bahraini child with their own Braille laptop," said Mr Al Khayat.

The cheque presented by Mr Bowden included a contribution of BD172 from the British Embassy, raised during a Christmas carol concert last December at the ambassador's residence in Manama
