The human eye is a remarkable instrument of vision capable of imprinting in our minds the beautiful and the ugliest images in its purest form.
Eye diseases and defects:
It is the clouded conditions of the lens of the eye, which is normally crystal clear. The common cause for cataract is aging. As in the case of hair turning white due to age, the protein in the crystalline lense turns cloudy due to age related changes.
Cataract can also form due to developmental defects, can be hereditary or can form due to injuries or certain diseases.
Glaucoma is an eye disease, which causes an increase in pressure inside the eyeballs resulting in quick or slow loss of eyesight depending on the type of glaucoma. There are different types of glaucoma, but the two most common ones are the acute or sudden type and the chronic or slow type.
It is contagious infection that causes inflammation of the conjunctiva and the inner part of the eyelid. There maybe a greenish white discharge called pus, and the eyelid swell and tend to stick together. There can also be a mild burning sensation in one or both eyes.
Trachoma is a chronic form of conjunctivitis that progressively gets worse. It may last for months or years and can cause blindness.
5. Exophthalmia (night blindness):
It is an eye disease that children can get between ages 2 and 5 years due to lack of vitamin A.
6. Diabetic retinopathy:
Diabetes disease causes lack of clarity of vision and eventually total loss of sight.
7. Detached retina:
It happened when a small area of the retina can separate or become detached from the choroid and tear.
8. Iritis (inflammation of the iris)
This is an inflammation of the iris and may occur suddenly or gradually caused by other infections or due to any injury.
9. Keratitis (inflammation of the cornea):
This is the inflammation of the cornea and may be caused by infection with bacteria, viruses or fungus and injury.
10. Squint or cross-eyes:
Squint or cross-eyes is caused by imbalance of the muscles of the eye.
It is the infection of the glands of the eyelid or the root of the eyelashes.
12. Neonatal Conjunctivitis:
It is a gonorrhea or virus infection transmitted from the mother in to a newborn baby in his first 2 days of life.
13. Uveitis (inflammation of the inner tissues):
It is the inflammation of the inner tissues of the eye consisting of the iris, the choroids and the ciliary body.
14. Colour blindness:
It is an eye condition that makes it impossible to distinguish one colour from another.
